Elephant and Castle

This is my second go round at Elephant and Castle. Yesterday I revisited Yellow Dog Tavern, and I decided to give another pub a try last night. My initial review, which is underneath this one, occurred just after they went through a major renovation. They may have made some changes since then(2015), but it feels pretty much the same. I found a table for for two in an area without many customers. I had in mind that I would order…Continue readingElephant and Castle

Yellow Dog Tavern

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been to Yellow Dog Tavern. I walk down Donald north of Portage fairly frequently. However, the tavern has been closed for a good portion of the Covid lockdown. From the signs on the doors, it appears the owner decided to stay closed until they could have close to full capacity. Last night I stopped in for an early supper. It gave me a chance to catch the end of the Jets game, while…Continue readingYellow Dog Tavern

Phô No 1 Vietnamese – 81 Isabel Street

Phô No 1 is a Vietnamese restaurant on Isabel Street just off of McDermott Avenue. It’s one of those places that I have heard many good things about. I’ve also walked by it many times on my way to and from the Exchange District, Yet, for one reason or another, I’ve never stopped in. The other day I found myself wandering through the Exchange District. Then I headed westward, wondering where to stop for lunch. As I was going down…Continue readingPhô No 1 Vietnamese – 81 Isabel Street

Fionn MacCool’s Grant Park Shopping Centre

Every so often I like to visit McNally Robinson’s Booksellers at Grant Park Shopping Centre. They have a quite lovely restaurant called Prairie Ink. I’ve been a couple of times in the past, but generally the line ups and wait times are longer than I’m willing to wait through. So, then I go and look and see what is available in the general area. One restaurant that I’ve recently tried, is Fionn MacCool’s an Irish pub chain. The restaurant is…Continue readingFionn MacCool’s Grant Park Shopping Centre

Pony Corral – Downtown

Prior to it’s being remodeled just after the Jets arrived back in town, the Pony Corral location on St. Mary Avenue was a place I visited with relative frequency. I’ve only been once in the time since, but decided recently that I would give it another try. One of the things that struck me a couple of years back was the quality of the interior redesign. The dark browns of the booth in the bar seem to offset well the…Continue readingPony Corral – Downtown
