Pho 5-Star Vietnamese Eatery is a new Vietnamese Restaurant in a location formerly occupied by a Vietnamese restaurant. The previous occupant was called Vietnam. The first thing I notice as I am walking in, is that the decor is completely changed. When the restaurant was Vietnam, it felt crowded. Pho 5-StarVietnamese Eatery is spacious. Perhaps the coronavirus is the cause, but the place seems to have slightly fewer tables. Gone also is the large screen TV that seemed always to…Continue readingPho 5-Star Vietnamese Eatery

Coconut Island Thai Restaurant
Coconut Island Thai Restaurant is a little strip mall place, located on Pembina Highway. I first visited when I was heading up to Faith Horizons, a semi annual diocesan conference. This year the conference was held at St. John’s College at the University of Manitoba. The event started on a Friday, which is my usual day off. I decided I would work my way down Pembina Highway stopping for coffee and lunch along the way. For a more recent Thai…Continue readingCoconut Island Thai Restaurant
Cafe Bella – Best Western Downtown
Cafe Bella is a hotel restaurant. It’s located in the Best Western on Hargrave street in downtown Winnipeg. As a general rule, hotel restaurants aren’t high on my list of places to visit. However, my recent job change has me spending a couple of days a week…Continue readingCafe Bella – Best Western Downtown
Ivan’s Kitchen is a combination Filipino restaurant and burger joint. It’s located on Logan Avenue, just west of Sherbrook street. I first noticed Ivan’s Kitchen when they popped up in the Manitoba Food Bloggers group on Facebook. I’ve enjoyed Filipino first since I first discovered Jeepney, and am always on the lookout for new Filipino restaurants. Where Ivan’s Kitchen is located on Logan, the neighbourhood is an interesting mix. There are quite a few houses tucked away here and there,…Continue readingIvan’s Kitchen – Logan Avenue
Over the last few years I’ve reviewed about 20 or so Vietnamese restaurants. Even with that, there are still several that I haven’t gotten around to trying. One of these is Thanh HuongContinue readingThanh Huong Vietnamese Restaurant
If there is one type of restaurant that my area of Winnipeg is blessed with an abundance of, it’s Vietnamese. Many of the boat people who came to Winnipeg at the end of the 1970s and into the 80s settled in the West End of the city. One of the results of this is that the neighbourhood contains around 20 Vietnamese places, any of which are no more than a 20 minute walk from my house. Pho KIm Tuong is…Continue readingPho Kim Tuong Vietnamese Restaurant
