Tom Yum Thai – Sherbrook Street

Tom Yum Thai is one of those restaurants I’ve often passed, but never entered. As a bus rider, I find that getting to North of Portage, from where I live in the West End, back to North of Portage on Main is often as a trip, as convoluted as this sentence. As a result, I generally walk when I go to such places as Stephanchew’s Church Goods, or to visit the Exchange District.Being on the corner of Sherbrook and William,…Continue readingTom Yum Thai – Sherbrook Street

Charisma – Sherbrook Street

Charisma of India is one of several fine Indian buffets in Winnipeg. I like buffets of all sorts, and particularly Indian buffets.  I’ve been for the lunch buffet in the past, but somehow or other never gotten around to visiting again. This is rather surprising seeing that it’s Sherbrook location is so close to St. Margaret’s, one of the parishes I’m involved with as a priest. As far as the buffet goes, I quite like it. The lunch buffet at…Continue readingCharisma – Sherbrook Street

Decadence Chocolates

Over the last few months as I’ve headed down Sherbrook, I’ve noticed signage for a new chocolate shop called Decadence Chocolates. Finally, in the last month or so, Decadence Chocolates opened. The first thing I noticed when I stepped in was the brightness of the location. The woods are light coloured and the walls are white, with the production area on one wall, and several tables along the other. With the production area located in the open it also allows…Continue readingDecadence Chocolates

Palatal Express – Guilty Pleasure

I never visited the Palatal Mongolian Stir-Fry on Pembina that now houses Royal Punjab Sweet House. However, I visit the Palatal Express at Sherbrook and Portage on a semi-regular spot. This for me is a great place to visit when I’m in the mood for a quick, cheap pigout. I don’t find the food here particularly brilliant, but there’s lots of it, and I can get it really spicy when I want that. Sadly, Palatal Express is now closed.  Like a…Continue readingPalatal Express – Guilty Pleasure

Sherbrook Street Delicatessen

Sherbrook Street Delicatessen is now closed. It’s place has been taken by Banza Noodle & Tea House. I’m thinking of starting a new category of post here on Dining with Donald. I think I would call it: “Restos replacing Restos.” First I did the Palm Tree (Rasoi), then it was Nick’s on Broadway(selFISH Sushi), and now it’s Sherbrook Street Delicatessen(Fitzroy). Plus Clay Oven(Fresh Cafe) is soon to be opening in the Hydro Building downtown.Like Palm Tree, Sherbrook Street Delicatessen is…Continue readingSherbrook Street Delicatessen
