Pho Hoang Sargent Avenue

My original review was sparked by the renovations on Portage Avenue. Since I wrote the original, the Portage Avenue Pho Hoang location has opened. So, last night I went in to check it out. When you walk into the storefront location, one of the first things that grabs your eye is the number of seats that have been squeezed into the space. There are two short and one longish bar counters against the wall, along with tables for a couple…Continue readingPho Hoang Sargent Avenue

Pho Binh Minh – 819 Sargent Avenue

Having recently moved, I find myself going out and exploring the various restaurants close to my new location. It’s one of those interesting things. Even though I wasn’t many blocks farther away from these restaurants than I am now, those extra few blocks meant I didn’t get out and check out places like Pho Binh Minh. Pho Binh Minh is located on Sargent, just past Arlington in a little professional plaza. The restaurant takes up about half of the street…Continue readingPho Binh Minh – 819 Sargent Avenue

Mercadito Latino – Sargent Avenue

I’m no expert on authentic regional cuisine, but when I hear about a place that has a reputation for such, I like to give it a try. One such place is Mercadito Latino, an El Salvadoran restaurant on Sargent Avenue, not far from where I live. This is one of those places that I really should have visited much earlier than I did. However, I’m glad that I’ve since corrected that error.Walking in to the restaurant, you find a few…Continue readingMercadito Latino – Sargent Avenue

Nou Eul Tor – Korean Restaurant

Nou Eul Tor is now closed. In it’s place is Gladys Caribbean Kitchen. You can find my review of that restaurant here.  I’m not really a make a reservation type of person. I tend to show up and hope that I’ll find myself a seat. Sometimes this works out well, and sometimes it means I have to go visit a restaurant a few times before I complete two visits. Still other times, it leads me to trying places I wasn’t…Continue readingNou Eul Tor – Korean Restaurant

Village Diner – Sargent Avenue

Last year I started hearing about the restaurant inside the Osborne Hotel, and that it was a great place for home-style comfort foods. Before I got a chance to visit, it was closed down as part of the changes that are coming to the hotel. I didn’t really think about it again, until I saw that it had, as the Village Diner. popped up again on Sargent Avenue. The new location once housed an Indian restaurant. Truth be told I wasn’t even…Continue readingVillage Diner – Sargent Avenue

Gohe Ethiopian Restaurant

Although it’s been open for a while, it’s only recently that I’ve really noticed Gohe Ethiopian Restaurant on Sargent Avenue. I really enjoy Ethiopian food, I quite like taking the Injera and using it to scoop up my food in a meal otherwise devoid of utensils. Ethiopian food also tends to be quite spicy especially if you add lot of Berberi, the spice that dominates a lot of Ethiopian cooking. Walking into Gohe the interior is fairly stark. One thing…Continue readingGohe Ethiopian Restaurant
