Manitoba Fall Suppers 2019 Edition

Every year I do a post on Winnipeg Fall Suppers. This year there seems to be a gap in the rural Manitoba Fall Suppers listings, so I’m setting up a post for those as well. If you would like your Manitoba Fall Supper added, just post in the comments, or contact me via macbubs13 at google’s webmail dot com. I don’t have a map plug-in working for my blog yet, I will try and add one as I go along.…Continue readingManitoba Fall Suppers 2019 Edition

Easter Feasts, Friends, Family

It’s in the middle of the evening of Easter Sunday as I write this. Holy Week, with all the various services is finally over. Today was a great Easter day. First off during our Easter morning Eucharist, we had four people baptized into the family of God. Three of the candidates were from the Furaha family who joined us last year. They are refugees from the Congo via Mozambique, and St. Philip’s has become their home here in Canada. This…Continue readingEaster Feasts, Friends, Family

Saint Francis Anglican Fall Supper

Last night I made it three weekends in a row for fall suppers. This time it was a visit to Saint Francis Anglican. Saint Francis is a relatively new parish, being formed from the joining together of Saint. Anne’s, Saint Martin-in-the-Fields, and Saint. Barnabas. The parish is located in the former Saint Anne’s building on Burrin Avenue. It’s a good place for a bus rider like myself, as it’s only a block off Main Street. The North Main Corydon gets…Continue readingSaint Francis Anglican Fall Supper

Centre Place Cafe – Convention Centre

When I was working at L.C. Taylor, I would occasionally wander down to the Convention Centre for lunch at the Centre Place Cafe. I went back recently to see what may have changed in the course of the renovations to the centre itself. The biggest change is that the cafe location has moved from the east to the west side of the second floor. At least as far as the place where you order and collect your food is concerned.…Continue readingCentre Place Cafe – Convention Centre

Roast Beef Dinner

Yesterday was a major day at St. Philip’s. In the morning we held our Remembrance Day Service. This year there was barely room to move, so many people attended. It was a solemn and profound experience. I don’t have the history as to how the two events came to be connected, but November 11th is also the day that St. Philip’s holds it’s roast beef dinner. Our roast beef dinner is a celebration of good food, but it is also…Continue readingRoast Beef Dinner

Swiss Chalet Delivered

It’s a while since I’ve been to Swiss Chalet. I don’t go voluntarily, but find myself roped into going when family members want to go. Today, however, was a bit different. The main reason I don’t go to Swiss Chalet is that I always find their chicken to be overcooked and dry. This time I ordered the roast beef on a kaiser roll. The thinly sliced roast beef was certainly cooked well done, but it has enough fat in it that…Continue readingSwiss Chalet Delivered
