1 Block Fried Chicken Diet

I’m back with my fourth Fried Chicken Fest post. This time I’m going hyper-local with my 1 Block Fried Chicken Diet.* The 100 Mile Dietis passé. Ordering fried chicken from restaurants almost next door to your workplace is the way to go. *Actual distance may be slightly more than a block. In my case, the three contributing restaurants, are Local Pub & Eatery, The Shark Club, and The Merchant Kitchen. The Shark Club is a new entry for me this…Continue reading1 Block Fried Chicken Diet

Silver Heights Restaurant + Lounge

I’m back with another St. James restaurant. This time it’s Silver Heights Restaurant. Silver Heights Restaurant & Lounge is a family steakhouse located on Portage Avenue. Now, with Fringe Fest starting tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time to check it out in advance of the festival. On…Continue readingVicky’s Diner – Albert Street

A & W – Pembina @ Plaza

For several years I lived just off Pembina and McGillivray. At the time I was a member at St. Vital EMC located originally at St. Mary’s and Bishop Grandin, then at Burland School. Being on the other side of the river, bus travel was a little tricky at times. However, the 16 route or the Dart were available at Pembina Highway and Plaza Drive. Given that there is often a bit of wait between the two buses, the A &…Continue readingA & W – Pembina @ Plaza

Harveys – 600 Portage Avenue

My previous post I wrote about Nuburger, a gourmet burger shop here in Winnipeg. Shortly after I was walking down Portage Avenue deciding where I would like lunch, and it suddenly occurred to me that I should give Harveys another try.My first visit to Harveys had not overwhelmed me. I had heard that their burgers were a cut above the average fast food place. However, I found my burger to be rather grey and tough. The burger patty reminded me…Continue readingHarveys – 600 Portage Avenue
