Sermon August 26, John 6:56-69

This is the last sermon from my series on John Chapter 6. At the end of the audio section I’ve included a couple of songs in Swahili sung by the family who joined us from Mozambique. They are originally are from the Congo, and as I posted a couple of weeks ago they have faced difficulties since arriving in Winnipeg. Sermon – August 12, 2018, John 6:35-51

My August 12 sermon isn’t as much a sermon as it is an update. It’s more of a recap and place-setting for the net two weeks. Kings, Power and Feeding Five Thousand: This week’s lectionary featured both John’s recounting of the feeding of the five thousand, and the story of David, Bathsheba, and the Uriah the Hittite. I was quite intrigued by the story of Jesus escaping the crowds attempt to make him king against the background of David using his kingly power to force Bathsheba into a sexual relationship and then killing Uriah, when Uriah fails to help him cover it up.
