Tyndale-The Supper of the Lord

As I wander through more readings in food and theology, I’ve come across a few books on the Eucharist itself. The Supper of the Lord, by William Tyndale is one book that caught my attention. I’m a history buff, so a book that comes from the early days of the English Reformation is one that I’m going to want to look at. Tyndale Vs More Tyndale’s best known work is an English translation of the New Testament. This was done while Tyndale…Continue readingTyndale-The Supper of the Lord

My sermon for August 19th is my second last sermon on the sixth chapter of John. I used three writers as a large portion of the basis of this sermon. I’ve included links to their books in the text below.Previous sermons: July 22th, July 29th, Aug 5th, Aug12th August 19th Sermon May the words of my mouth and the meditation of all of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, O Lord Our God our strength and our Redeemer. So we are…Continue readingSermon, August 19th – John 6:51-58

Sermon – August 12, 2018, John 6:35-51

My August 12 sermon isn’t as much a sermon as it is an update. It’s more of a recap and place-setting for the net two weeks. One of the reason that this one is so short is that it was well into the 30 degree celsius range with high humidity on Sunday, and I thought it would be best not to hold either the congregation or myself captive to such heat. Although, I should add, I was very pleased that…Continue readingSermon – August 12, 2018, John 6:35-51

Sermon from the Fringe – Mark 6:30-34, 53-56

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a sermon on the site. This is one I preached yesterday. I preached at Saint Philip’s in the morning, and Saint Margaret’s at night. The Sermon from the Fringe title, derives from the fact that Winnipeg is in the middle of its Fringe Theatre Festival, and the fact that  the editors of the Lectionary, cut out the main body of the story when they chose the reading. The audio below is from last night at…Continue readingSermon from the Fringe – Mark 6:30-34, 53-56

Celebrating Saint Andrew and Ordination

2019 marked the 10 year anniversary of my ordination. I had hoped that I would be able to arrange and host a special feast for celebrating that day. In the end that didn’t work out for me. Instead I enjoyed a solo day of celebration. Just like 2018 I wrote about that experience as well. You can read that post at the following link. Perhaps this year, being my tenth anniversary of being a priest, I’ll hold a late September…Continue readingCelebrating Saint Andrew and Ordination

Monika K. Hellwig – Eucharist, Hunger

In a few weeks, with the beginning of Lent, I’m going to be starting a lecture series entitled: Eucharistic Eating. I’ll be publishing details in the near future. The main idea of the series is bringing our daily eating into the Eucharist, and vice-versa. One book that I’ve been reading in preparation is: The Eucharist and The Hunger of the World, by Monika K. Hellwig. The Eucharist and the Hunger of the World was published in 1976. Some of the food…Continue readingMonika K. Hellwig – Eucharist, Hunger
