Tom Yum Thai – Sherbrook Street

Tom Yum Thai is one of those restaurants I’ve often passed, but never entered. As a bus rider, I find that getting to North of Portage, from where I live in the West End, back to North of Portage on Main is often as a trip, as convoluted as this sentence. As a result, I generally walk when I go to such places as Stephanchew’s Church Goods, or to visit the Exchange District.Being on the corner of Sherbrook and William,…Continue readingTom Yum Thai – Sherbrook Street

Sabai Thai Eatery – Corydon Avenue

Last week my oldest brother Ian paid a visit to Winnipeg. On Thursday he and I went for lunch together. We ended up picking Sabai Thai Eatery, on Corydon Avenue at the Corner of Wilton Street. This is one of those places that I’ve heard a lot about, but never visited. It seems whenever I’m in the area I turn on autopilot and end up at Falafel Place. After a couple of visits, I can certainly say that Sabai Thai will certainly…Continue readingSabai Thai Eatery – Corydon Avenue

Vanxai Laos Thai

Earlier this year, Urbanspoon, which I had used for traffic referral was bought out by Zomato. I’ll avoid the rant over why this has been so terrible. However, it has caused me to change my review focus somewhat. They emphasize neighbourhoods, so you are going to see quite a few Saint Vital posts in the next while, as I attempt to improve my status there. I’m starting that off with my recent visits to Vanxai Laos Thai restaruant on St.…Continue readingVanxai Laos Thai

Boun’s – Marion Street

It’s almost a year since I wrote a review of Vientiane Thai on Marion Street. Vientiane Thai is located across the street from Deen’s Caribbean. It also shares space in a strip mall with Lovey’s BBQ and Boun’s. Of the three other restaurant’s Boun’s is the most interesting, because they both feature Thai cuisine. Boun’s also features Laotian cuisine, but from what I observed it seems fairly similar to Thai. It would probably take someone with more expertise than me…Continue readingBoun’s – Marion Street

Thai Express – Portage Place

A few months ago, I asked a question in the Manitoba Food Bloggers Facebook group. What is your favourite food court restaurant. I got a variety of answers. Oddly, I can’t remember what my own answer to the question was. All I know is that it has changed. Back then it likely would have been Koya Japan. Now it is undoubtedly Thai Express. Specifically the Thai Express in Portage Place. I like Thai food, so it should come as no…Continue readingThai Express – Portage Place

Thida’s Thai, Downtown

For many years I worked on the corner of Donald and Broadway, in downtown Winnipeg. For the first part of my time there one of my regular stops for lunch was at Thida’s Thai Restaurant, which was a quick trip across the lane from the building I worked in.  I’ve always thought they had really good food.  I also really like the heat that is a feature of so much Thai food. However, over time I noticed a trend.  I would…Continue readingThida’s Thai, Downtown
