Flatland Wrap – Donald Street

Flatland wrap appears to have closed. There is brown paper on the windows as of early March, 2019. I’ll keep my eyes peeled to see if this is a closure or just a renovation. Traveling by foot as I do, I often run into people who I might not otherwise see. Among the people I periodically encounter are my former co-workers from L.C. Taylor & Co. Being well acquainted with my blogging habits, they often tell me of new restaurants…Continue readingFlatland Wrap – Donald Street

Sultan’s Shawarma, Ellice Avenue

One of the pleasures of living in the Spence neighbourhood is that there are so many dining choices close by. As the neighbourhood is so diverse, there are also a wide variety of cuisines to choose from. I’m a big fan of shawarma, and there are two places within a few blocks of each other. Shawarma Time at the corner of Ellice and Sherbrook, and Sultan’s Shawarma, just a few blocks east towards the University of Winnipeg. Sultan’s Shawarma qualifies…Continue readingSultan’s Shawarma, Ellice Avenue

Shawarma Khan – Review

Next week marks six years since Shawarma Khan opened in the Exchange District of Winnipeg. Since then there has been a location opened at Investors Group Field, along with Obby Khan’s Green Carrot Juice in Osborne Village. Recently Khan has opened a third location. This one is what was home to one of my favourite coffee shops Twist Cafe. This seems like a natural fit, as the owners of the building are PInnacle Staffing. One of the owners of Pinnacle is…Continue readingShawarma Khan – Review

Shawarma at Falafel Queen

On my first trip up to Broadway this summer, I took pictures of several food trucks with the intention of visiting them later.  The second truck I visited was the Falafel Queen truck, which serves traditional mid-eastern fare such as falafels and shawarma.  For lunch, I had the Beef Shawarma combo (with fries and drink). Value: All the mains are $6.00 or $7.00, in addition they offer combos of main, samosa or fries, and soft drink for $9.00 and $10.00 respectively. …Continue readingShawarma at Falafel Queen
