Cornerstone Bar-Restaurant

Cornerstone Bar and restaurant is now closed. As I mentioned in my post on Sonya’s restaurant, I’ve been involved in a stage production of the Vicar of Dibley. The performances were held at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church as part of their Arts Festival. With the final week of rehearsal and performance taking place there, I paid several visits to Osborne Village restaurants. The first of these that I’m writing about is The Cornerstone Bar & Restaurant. Cornerstone occupies the…Continue readingCornerstone Bar-Restaurant

Skinner’s Hot Dogs – Forks Market

The work on the new food court offerings at The Forks is nearing completion. I’m looking forward to the opening up of the new restaurants. The new seating and lighting is terrific. I like the various seating choices and the big round lamps look fantastic. While I (im)patiently wait for the grand opening, I’m still trying some of the other locations, such as Skinner’s. Skinner’s is a hot dog, hamburger place that brought the flavours of the old Skinner’s Wet…Continue readingSkinner’s Hot Dogs – Forks Market

Sam’s Place – Gathering Spot

This post is only a couple of years old, but Sam’s Place has undergone renovations since I wrote this review. Last year I wrote about my favourite cookbook, More with Less. A Mennonite cookbook it contains many great recipes along with displaying a concern for using earth’s resources well. Combining good food and social concern is a hallmark of many Mennonite ventures, and Sam’s Place cafe on Henderson Highway certainly fits that model. Not only does the cafe serve great food,…Continue readingSam’s Place – Gathering Spot

Sonya’s – Henderson Highway

This place closed in the last year or so. There was an accident that damaged the building  I haven’t heard anything about the possibility of the restaurant re-opening, and that’s kind of sad. Sonya’s is the kind of old-fashioned comfort food restaurant that is slowly disappearing from the landscape.I’ve recently been reading Starting from Scratch, by Patty Kirk. I’ll be writing a review in the next couple of weeks, but one of the themes is memories and trying to recapture them. When it…Continue readingSonya’s – Henderson Highway

Decadence Chocolates

Over the last few months as I’ve headed down Sherbrook, I’ve noticed signage for a new chocolate shop called Decadence Chocolates. Finally, in the last month or so, Decadence Chocolates opened. The first thing I noticed when I stepped in was the brightness of the location. The woods are light coloured and the walls are white, with the production area on one wall, and several tables along the other. With the production area located in the open it also allows…Continue readingDecadence Chocolates

Best Meal – Food Truck

Well, spring has arrived and the food trucks are slowly trickling back out onto the street. So far, I have noticed only one new one, called Best Meal. I believe the Extreme Fries Truck is a repainted version of the one that was out before, but I could be corrected. (NB I have been corrected, it has a new owner as well, Bobbie Mack). Best Meal serves the usual assortment of hot dogs and hamburgers, but specializes in Middle Easter…Continue readingBest Meal – Food Truck
