Myrna’s Restaurant 833 Sargent Avenue

Myrna’s Restaurant I’m traveling a little west on Sargent Avenue for this month’s Taste the West End. I’ve been visiting Myrna’s. a Filipino restaurant that’s been part of this neighbourhood for a long time. I remember visiting not long after I moved into the West End, but it is only recently that I have returned. Myrna’s specializes in breakfast and lunch. Hours of operation are from 8-4 during the week, 7-4 Saturday, and 7-2 Sunday. Right from the start, Myrna’s…Continue readingMyrna’s Restaurant 833 Sargent Avenue

Jeepney – Fine Filipino Fare

This is an update on Jeepney. I first reviewed the restaurant a little short of seven years ago. Since then, the original location fell victim to a fire. They have reopened out on Inkster Boulevard. This reopening comes with a new chef, as Albert, the original chef has moved on to other areas of the food world. I am sorry that they left my neighbourhood, but I figured I should place an order with them, as a way of checking…Continue readingJeepney – Fine Filipino Fare

Ivan’s Kitchen – Logan Avenue

Ivan’s Kitchen is a combination Filipino restaurant and burger joint. It’s located on Logan Avenue, just west of Sherbrook street. I first noticed Ivan’s Kitchen when they popped up in the Manitoba Food Bloggers group on Facebook. I’ve enjoyed Filipino first since I first discovered Jeepney, and am always on the lookout for new Filipino restaurants. Where Ivan’s Kitchen is located on Logan, the neighbourhood is an interesting mix. There are quite a few houses tucked away here and there,…Continue readingIvan’s Kitchen – Logan Avenue

Jollibee – Northgate Shopping Centre

It’s been around a year since the first location for Jollibee, the iconic Filipino fast food restaurant, opened in Winnipeg. I was invited to the opening, and it turned out I couldn’t go. Missing the opening didn’t turn out all that badly, as the reason for missing was one of things that led to the Free Press feature on my blog last January. Jollibee has been called the McDonald’s of the Philippines. Which would be true, if McDonald’s actually produced…Continue readingJollibee – Northgate Shopping Centre

Mami Project – Filipino Noodle Bar

A few months ago, a friend asked me if I knew of any restaurants on Ellice Avenue that might be for sale. I gave a wander down the street, and the only thing I noticed was that Palm Tree Restaurant seemed to be closed. It wasn’t long however, before I noticed a sign for a new place, called The Mami Project – Filipino Noodle Bar. I waited eagerly for the opening of this restaurant, walking by every couple of days…Continue readingMami Project – Filipino Noodle Bar
