Reviews and Such Restaurants

Green Carrot Juice Co.

During the last week of rehearsals for the Vicar of Dibley, I often found myself with limited time for meals between leaving St. Philip’s and arriving at Crescent Fort Rouge United. So, one day I decided to give Green Carrot Juice Company a try. Green Carrot is owned by Obby Khan, former Winnipeg Blue Bomber who is now involved in several restaurant locations. His Shawarma Khan in the Exchange was fairly early among the restaurants I’ve reviewed.

As you may know, I’m not on the top of list of juicing advocates. However, I do enjoy them if they offer a refreshing and tasty occasional alternative. My preference is still to chew my food. However, the smoothie list provided some interesting options. I chose the Strong Like Bull. The colour wasn’t the most appealing, but I enjoyed the flavour. The almond stood out among the many ingredients as well as the hemp. For a main course style of beverage I did find it filling, and felt satisfied and ready for rehearsal after drinking it.

This was the last week of rehearsals, so the energy expended was increasing. I decided to pick up a juice and a snack to take with me. I noticed a bag of PaleoBrittle. At $10 I thought it was a little steep, but I thought I’d pick it up and give it a try anyways. I was surprised to find how filling it was. It was not overly sweet and gave a good energy boost when eating it, without a later sugar crash. This would be a good snack to have along on a road trip.
For a juice I went with a large Rehydrate. The mint flavour came through quite well, but not overpowering which mint can sometimes do. This juice was enough to last me through the whole rehearsal.

I’m still skeptical about most of the claims associated with juicing, but Green Carrot does offer a nice, light refreshing meal option from time to time. They also have a selection of salads and wraps for those times when you need to sink your teeth into something.
I tend to hit Osborne Village on an infrequent basis, but Green Carrot Juice Company is a place I will definitely visit again.
