Fortify Eatery – Marion @ Tache

Friday, I posted about Munch It Pastry Shop. I mentioned in that post Fortify, a new wellness centre that also contains retail space, and a coffee shop.

Like Munch It, Fortify Eatery only opened in December of last year. The signs were up for quite awhile before the doors opened. I have not yet visited the wellness centre portion of the business. The cafe and retail space has an entrance off of Tache Avenue.

Fortify Eatery is a plant-based dining space. I know they do offer a packaged bone broth, that is made from animal bones, but from I can see everything else is either vegetarian or vegan. I have not checked out every last detail of the menu, so there may be one or two other item that are not.

To your left as you enter, there is a cooler for takeaway food items. These consists of salads, some baked goods, and a variety of juices, waters, and kombucha. The juices are supplied by Verde Juice Bar, located in the Wolseley neighbourhood of Winnipeg.

The retail section of the store mainly contains non-food related goods. However, there is a section that contains items, such as flax seeds, teas, and other beverages. As of yet I have not purchased any of those.

Just beyond the coolers there are three two-seater tables. The service area is located straight ahead as you walk in. The menu consists of smoothies, functional lattes {beverages that contain various spices, greens, etc., designed to help you function better}. They also offer up the more traditional coffee beverages.

Fortify Eatery on the Go

I am not going to chronicle each of my visits to Fortify. I generally get up there a couple of times a week. Although I enjoy The Canteen, I find that more and more often, when I want a coffee I stop at Fortify.

Falafel Salad

I have tried a couple of the functional lattes, and while I enjoyed them, I cant say that they left me feeling with any more energy or feeling perked up. I also gave the smoothies a try. They are rich, thick and very tasty.

One beverage that I do really like is their Chai Tea Latte. I find the flavour to be richer than any of the other Chai Lattes that I have tried.

I took a falafel salad to go. I enjoyed it, but I think I would take the falafel balls out of the salad and give them about 20 seconds in the microwave next time. Maybe it is just me, but cold falafel just does not quite hit it.

Fortify Lemon Slice
The lemon slice from Fortify is vegan, and comes with a rich, tart lemony flavour.

Another thing I like about Fortify is that the bread they serve with their soup comes from Hildegard’s. Hildegard’s is one of my favourite hangouts, and their breads are fantastic.

Although the food and beverages at Fortify are really good, it is the staff that really stands out. Every visit feels like a visit with friends. While the service is relaxed and casual it is also efficient and timely.

I am definitely going to continue to make Fortify a regular stop. Whether you a like a traditional pick me up such as a espresso, or you desire some cold-pressed juice, you will find it at Fortify. You’ll also find a good selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes to enjoy during the course of your day.
