The Cooking Gene – Michael W Twitty

The Cooking Gene: A Journey Through African American Culinary History in the Old South,  by Michael W. Twitty is another book that I picked up from the Millennium Library’s New and Noted Section. If you can get past all the latest and greatest diet and nutrition fad books, there are generally one or two worthwhile titles to pick up and read. I was particularly interested in this book after having recently read John T. Edge’s the Potlikker papers. *Before I…Continue readingThe Cooking Gene – Michael W Twitty

Potato Salad aux Glorieux – Habs Lover

This potato salad is inspired by the colours of The Montreal Canadiens, also known as Les Glorieux. I decided to replublish to day in honour of the beginning of their series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.  Last month I signed up for a blogging contest through the Food Bloggers of Canada. The contest is sponsored by The Little Potato Company which operates out of Edmonton, Alberta. The Little Potato Company is not only committed to growing great potatoes, but doing…Continue readingPotato Salad aux Glorieux – Habs Lover

So, thank you Shel. You can check out my second…Continue readingHello Fresh- Unboxing – First Meal

As well, St. Philip’s. where I’m incumbent has weekly coffee time along with BBQs and occasional other dinners. One of those dinners is our annual Advent Potluck which we hold each year on the Third Sunday of Advent.…Continue readingAdvent Potluck & Church Dinners

Cookie Making Adventures(misadventures)

Aside from a garden out back, one of the things I looked forward to when I moved into the house I am now living in, was the prospect of a full-sized stove and oven in which to do more cooking and baking. Moving in during the heat of summer meant that I didn’t get into the habit right away, so it’s only recently that I’ve started to make more of a conscious effort in this area. One other thing that…Continue readingCookie Making Adventures(misadventures)

My Fat Dad – Lerman

I originally started this review for My Fat Dad, over a year and a half ago. I found myself not able to complete it and therefore coming back to it time and again until I was happy with what I wrote. Shakespeare wrote “If music be the food of love.” Yet for many people food is the food of love. We express our love for friends and family by eating together, and either cooking with or for each other. Dawn…Continue readingMy Fat Dad – Lerman
