A Visit With Friends to Lovey’s BBQ and Smokehouse

Lovey’s BBQ is no longer in business. Last Friday I had the chance to go for supper with Anna Coleshaw-Echols and Lori Morton, two of my blogging friends.  The occasion was an invitation to Lovey’s BBQ and Smokehouse on Marion Street.  As a matter of full disclosure, our meal was provided gratis, but the review that follows is my own thoughts and I wasn’t asked to make any particular comments. Lovey’s also has a truck. It has been renamed since I…Continue readingA Visit With Friends to Lovey’s BBQ and Smokehouse

Pop Up Brunch

Raw:Almond has become a big hit on the Winnipeg winter dining scene. I’ve gone to three of the brunches and one of the dinners and I’ve gathered them all together here. The pop up brunches have been the best part.  Much has been made over the Raw:Almond pop-up restaurant.  The Winnipeg Free Press has covered it a couple of times, the link is to the second of these articles.   You can also find out about it on the local CBC…Continue readingPop Up Brunch

Twist Cafe

Twist Cafe closed about a year or so ago, and was replaced with Twist Bistro. This didn’t revive anything, and Twist Bistro is now also closed. Update to my update. My last post, on the Ellice Cafe, featured a place that had been one of my regular…Continue readingTwist Cafe

Wedding Feast in a Farmyard

Over the weekend I was at the wedding of my friends James and Kendra.  The wedding was held just outside of Winnipeg in a wonderful outdoor setting, called Cloverdale Farm.  The ceremony itself was in the backyard of the house. The guests were seated on hay bales draped with cloth to keep the guests clothes clean.  Then came the wedding feast, which was held in an old haying barn that had been decorated for the occasion.  A special touch was…Continue readingWedding Feast in a Farmyard

Broadway Desserts Truck Versions

2022 Update: Even before Covid-19 hit, City of Winnipeg regulations were driving food trucks off of Broadway. Tokyo Rabbit is still around, but you aren’t likely to see them on Broadway any time soon. I picked up a hint from fellow MB Food Blogger Rebecca Hadfield that there was a new truck on Broadway.  This one was a Japanese dessert truck.  So, naturally I made my way up to Broadway , because I love my Broadway food trucks, and discovered…Continue readingBroadway Desserts Truck Versions
