Third + Bird + More, Shopping Local

Last weekend was the semi-annual Third + Bird local goods market. 2019 marks 10 years that Third + Bird, which operated originally as a small Christmas market, has been in operation. For the first several years it was held out in Transcona, and because that’s an area that, in spite of having routes so named, is poorly served by transit, I had never attended.   Then, about three years ago, they moved into the basement of the downtown Hudson’s Bay…Continue readingThird + Bird + More, Shopping Local

More Manitoba Made Food and Drink

I try and hit the Winnipeg Farmers Markets a few times during the year. I’m generally on the lookout for more Manitoba made products to try. Mainly I’ve been visiting the Downtown Market, either at the Hydro Building, or in winter, indoors at Cityplace. Wednesday I went out to St. Norbert for the Farmers Market there. However, having to wait 45 minutes for a St. Norbert bus in the middle of the day, I’m not as inclined to make return visits…Continue readingMore Manitoba Made Food and Drink

Winnipeg’s Best Butter Tart

I’ve updated my butter tart list. New entries are marked with asterisks. Over the last little while I’ve written a couple of posts, where the purchase of a Butter Tart was part of my visit to the establishment. I’ve had some good response to this, so I thought maybe now would be the time to do a post on Winnipeg’s best Butter Tart. Obviously, such a post is only the opinion of one man. So, I don’t expect that everyone,…Continue readingWinnipeg’s Best Butter Tart

Fresh Food Refreshes Market

The Farmers Market run by Downtown Biz at the MB Hydro building is now in it’s 4th year. Not surprisingly it continues to evolve and change. Old vendors leave and new vendors and fresh food arrive. This year has seen several new stalls appear. I won’t be going over all of them, but a few of them are making the market more interesting. Hours for the market are 10 am – 3 pm. The Bar Lady: Fresh food can definitely…Continue readingFresh Food Refreshes Market

Decadence Chocolates

Over the last few months as I’ve headed down Sherbrook, I’ve noticed signage for a new chocolate shop called Decadence Chocolates. Finally, in the last month or so, Decadence Chocolates opened. The first thing I noticed when I stepped in was the brightness of the location. The woods are light coloured and the walls are white, with the production area on one wall, and several tables along the other. With the production area located in the open it also allows…Continue readingDecadence Chocolates
