BURGERS R us Food Truck

Burgers R us review. Back in the day when there were a pile of trucks on Broadway

Red Gold Summer Grillin' Party ...
Red Gold Summer Grillin' Party - Sheri Ann Richerson

I was visiting the Peg City Grub blog today, and discovered that there are still many food trucks that I haven’t visited. On that list are: A Little Pizza Heaven, Corn on the Curb, Golden Boy Sandwich, Grass Fed Grill, Half Moon, Smokin Haut, Pizzapotomus, Waki Temaki, and Up South BBQ. Two that are not on the list are Island Fusion and BURGERS R us.

Last week I gave Island Fusion a try. This week I took the chance to try BURGERS R us. BURGERS R us is a bright red truck with flame broiled burgers pictured on the back. The flame broiling on the back gives a good illustration of what goes on in the truck.  As I walked down Broadway today, the smoke billowing from the stack made me think that one of the trucks might have caught on fire.  Fortunately it was only burgers being cooked. So here’s is my take on the truck.

Burgers R us Value:

BURGERS R us sells burgers and hot dogs.  Most of the items on the menu are $8.50 to $10.00 which includes a side.  Fries, burgers, and hot dogs are all sold individually at $6-6.50. Both the burger and hot dog that I had were large in size, with a good amount of topping. As combo the items are a really good buy. Individually the burger and hot dog are good pies. Given the size of the dish, the fries at $6.00 are a little high. Drinks are $2.00 each for cans, a little high. 4/5

As I said, they only carry burgers, hot dogs, and fries. However they carry several variations on each. The menu says they have onion rings. There were no onion rings on offer each time I was there. If the onions rings show up on offer, I’d raise this mark. 4/5

The burger I had was first rate.  First and foremost a burger should have a good beef character to it, and this did. No frozen, grey discs are being passed off as patties here. I had the Mushroom Swiss Burger.  Lots of cheese and gravy, although it could have used 2 or 3 more bits of actual mushroom.  The Pulled Pork hot dog was well cooked, and the pulled pork had a good BBQ flavour and texture to it.  The Fries are good and crisp, and served hot.  The one thing missing is a little bit more selection in terms of condiments.  I hope they add some vinegar, seasoned salt, hot sauce, etc. 4.25/5

Both choices come wrapped in foil with paper on the outside.  The fries come in a boat that held the order quite well.  I found the items to be surprisingly easy to eat and carry. 4.5.5

The service was quick and friendly on both occasions.  Most notable was that the food, especially the fries came out hot.  4.5/5

BURGERS R us Overall:

The truck seems to only have been out on the streets for a little while. I think there are still a few kinks that need to be worked out. That being said, this will soon, if not  not already, will soon be the best burger and hot dog truck or cart out on Winnipeg streets 4.25/5
