Bodegoes – City Place Downstairs

NB: The Bodegoes location in the Exchange has found a new location. This location, in City Place, is still open and going strong.
Bodegoes is the former Line-up and there is  a sign just outside the restaurant explaining why the owners chose to make the name change, as well as on their website.  This has become one of my favourite places to grab lunch if I want to go out and am in a hurry.  Situated on the main floor of City Place, the restaurant offers meal to go, but also has seating for about 40-50.

Value:  All the entrees are under $10.00 and the most expensive of the entrees are very substantial.  One of the best bargains is that the coffee.  If you buy it to drink in the restaurant, it’s only $.99 for a 12oz mug, $.49 for the refill.    Not the greatest coffee around, but not bad either and a real bargain.  Bodegoes also has a selection of sweets from Cakeology and Tall Grass Prairie, for under $3.00 4.5/5
Selection:  A wide range of items, that includes: Asian specialties in takeout boxes, soups, salads, wraps, chili, fish and chips, and chicken fingers among others.  There are also several vegetarian options available.  5/5

Bodegoes Oriental Salad with chicken
The Bodegoes Oriental salad.

Quality:*   The fish and chips are the one item I’ve tried that wouldn’t qualify as really good, too much batter and a little overcooked.  The boxed Asian dishes are the best of the lot, but the soup is really fine as well. 4.5/5
Decor:  The walls are decorated with old Eaton’s catalogue covers, a reminder of City Place’s much more glorious past.  There are a variety of seating arrangements, including benches, counter and tables.  The seats are mainly comfortable. 4.5/5

The Three Way Cincinnati Chili from Bodegoes
The three-way Cincinnati Chili is a a good, filling and cheap lunch offering.

Service:  The staff works very quickly, although you may still find yourself waiting for a bit during the lunch rush. 4.5/5
Overall:  A great little place for lunch on the run. 4.5/5
*Although I’ve mainly tried the City Place location, I was pleased to find, when I tried the Exchange location that the quality was the same as I had experienced at City Place.
