Wok Box- Kenaston Common

I find myself fairly regularly out in the area of Kenaston Common. As a transit rider and pedestrian it always makes for an interesting trip. On my last visit I tried to transfer at Grant and Kenaston. I just missed the Waverley bus, and it then ended up being quicker to walk than to wait for the next bus. This was at lunch time. I arrived at the Wok Box at lunchtime and found quite a line up. I decided to take care of my other business in the other and go for a late lunch.

This was my second trip to Wok Box. The first was a couple of months ago and was quite an enjoyable experience. This second trip was not quite as good. The first trip I ordered the Singapore Cashew dish, and the second time the Sweet Mongolian. The Sweet Mongolian was a lunch sized dish, so it is smaller. What was lacking though was the variety of vegetables. It was almost all broccoli. The Singapore Cashew dish had a good variety of all the vegetables. The other thing lacking was that the Udon noodles were a little on the pasty side.

The same experience was true of the sides that I ordered. On my first trip I had the Spring Rolls. They were crispy and had a pretty good filling inside of them. The second trip I tried the Green Onion Cakes. Although there were flecks of onion in them, they tasted like plain cooked pizza crust. The onion added no flavour to them.

These cakes could have done with a little more onion flavour

Overall, the portion sizes were quite good. The lunch sizes are generally around $6.50 and the meal sizes between $10.00 and $11.00. The spring rolls at 2/$4.99 are a little pricey for what you get. I found the service to be good, friendly, and reasonably quick.

Despite the fact that my second trip was a bit of a letdown, I still think Wok Box makes a nice change of pace if you are in a hurry and looking for something different.
