Swiss Chalet Delivered

It’s a while since I’ve been to Swiss Chalet. I don’t go voluntarily, but find myself roped into going when family members want to go. Today, however, was a bit different. The main reason I don’t go to Swiss Chalet is that I always find their chicken to be overcooked and dry.

This time I ordered the roast beef on a kaiser roll. The thinly sliced roast beef was certainly cooked well done, but it has enough fat in it that the beef itself isn’t dry. Combined with the jus that is nice and light, I think I’ve finally found a dish that I can tolerate when I go.

I’ve had the chance to try a couple of online delivery services in the last month or so. Both Justeat and SkiptheDishes proved themselves to have good website with excellent customer service. This past week I had the opportunity to try an online restaurant. In this case Swiss Chalet.  The biggest difference was that Swiss Chalet had more bells and whistles.  Most notably pictures of each item on the menu.  Other than that the website experience was awful.

Swiss Chalet Website Trouble.

The first problem was with their honey glazed chicken.  It is listed as a summer special on the front page of the website. However, on the actual menu it’s listed as $14.99 the same as the regular half chicken. When you try and order it though, you can only order as the $17.99 special.  I tried several times to take the extra dish off and it wouldn’t work. Plus, there was a $.50 extra charge for the Southwest salad that wasn’t listed. I would have changed it, but it showed up in such away that I didn’t noticed until payment details were entered. Then they got messed up on the address. The only good thing about the online ordering was that SkiptheDishes and not Swiss Chalet handles the actual order. SkiptheDishes phoned very quickly and got the correct address. They also made sure it arrived in the allotted time.

The Meals

We ended up ordering a honey-glazed half chicken and the regular half-chicken.  In both cases the chicken was over-cooked and dry.  My dinner companion had a baked potato which despite being black on the outside was under cooked.  I had the Southwest Salad which was actually quite nice.  Although, I thought that Southwest Salad generally includes sweet corn.  Mine had none, and only a few black beans.  The dessert that came with the special was a slice of apple pie.  The crust wasn’t too bad, but the apples were mushy and there was no evidence of cinnamon at all.

Swiss Chalet Summary:

I get the feeling that Swiss Chalet is the sort of place where you should order in and dine at non-peak hours. Otherwise they seem to simply crank out the meals with little regard to quality.  As for that “Always so Good for so Little?”  It ain’t all that cheap for what you get.
