Falafel Queen

Falafel Queen on Urbanspoon

On my first trip up to Broadway this summer, I took pictures of several food trucks with the intention of visiting them later.  The second truck I visited was the Falafel Queens truck, which serves traditional mid-eastern fare such as falafels and shwarma.  For lunch, I had the Beef Shwarma combo (with fries and drink).

Value:  All the mains are $6.00 or $7.00, in addition they offer combos of main, samosa or fries, and soft drink for $9.00 and $10.00 respectively.  The drinks are $1.50 each, the fries $3.00 and the samosas $1.50.  The interesting thing is that unless you get 2 samosas in the combo, they combo with samosa is the same as buying the items individually. 3.5/5 for being confusing

Selection:  There are five mains which include beef, chicken and vegetarian options among them.  With the samosas and fries being the only side dishes available.   Still you should be able to find something you like.  There are alos two or three different sauces available.  4/5

Quality:  Here, I will tell you to avoid the combo if you are thinking of getting it with the fries.  Two reasons:  One, the fries are quite pedestrian.  Two, at least with the shwarma, the portion size is such that the fries result in there being more food than you need.

The beef shwarma was as excellent in quality as it was filling in quantity.  There was plenty of well-cooked and seasoned beef with sour cream, and in the middle, a good portion of pickled red cabbage that was crispy but which had been slightly softened by the warmth of the beef, making it easier to chew after the first bite.   Shwarma 4.5/5  Fries 2/5

Portability:  My shwarma ranked quite low.  In addition to the multiple containers to carry items, the one end of the pita had not been sealed, causing all the sauce to run out of the bottom and into the small french fry bag that the pita had been put into.  I felt compelled to eat the Shwarma as fast as possible lest the juices leaked through and all over me.  This was doubly a concern as I am quite capable of making a mess all by my self. 2/5

Service:  The service was friendly and prompt.  The food was prepared reasonably quickly.

Overall:  The shwarma was really good.  The rest not so much.  3.5/5
