Our Swiss eSIM for Switzerland gives you 30 days of high speed data throughout Switzerland. Select how much data you need and we will send you a QR code and instructions on how to activate the eSIM. With data, you can check emails, check your flight details on the go, use GPS and anything else that requires data. In order to make phone calls, you will need to use an app such as WhatsApp, Facetime or others. Cellular Abroad recommends Talkatone as it is free to download and use and allows you to call and text the USA and Canada.

Please note that your cell phone, besides being eSIM compatible, must also be unlocked.

Here is how to check to see if your phone or iPad is unlocked and eSIM compatible. Go to:

– Settings
– General
– Information
– Carrier lock : you will see in this field “NO SIM restrictions” or “SIM restricted” which means it is unlocked.

In case your device is locked, contact your carrier and see if you qualify to have the device “unlocked” (you just need to provide its IMEI that you can find under the Settings or dial *#06# to display it on your screen).

Switzerland Cell Phone Rentals

Rent a cell phone for Switzerland and have immediate access to unlimited calls, texts and high speed data for your trip. Your cell phone is delivered to you prior to your trip. Once back from Switzerland, simply drop it off at USPS (USA only) within 2 business days of your return using our prepaid shipping envelope. Your cell phone will work anywhere in Europe and not just Switzerland.

To check the cost, select your cell phone rental option, put in the actual departure and return dates and the cost will be calculated. This is the perfect solution not only for making calls and texting but to use Google Maps, book tickets or a taxi online, use social media, check your emails and anything else you want to do with the unlimited (up to 20GB) data provided with your rental.

Your phone rental includes everything you need for your trip including the phone and activated SIM card, international plug adapters and chargers, instructions plus a return package for easy return when you are back from your trip (USA only). Simply select your phone option, enter the trip dates and your rental cost will be calculated. Time permitting, you will receive the phone at least 2-3 days prior to your departure so you can upload apps if desired.

While all of our rentals allow unlimited calling and texting within Switzerland, in order to call to the USA or Canada you will need an app. WhatsApp is great if the other party also has the app on their phone but to call to those who don’t or to a landline, we recommend Talkatone which is a free app that allows unlimited calls and texts to the USA and Canada. Please note that you need an iPhone 8 or newer in order to download many apps, including Talkatone. We also recommend the iPhone 8 or newer for the larger screen, particularly if you plan on using a GPS app. Please note that our rentals do work in the US but only for data.

Switzerland SIM Card

The Tourist and Professional Plans also include unlimited calls and texts within Switzerland. For the Extended Professional and Executive plans that are data only, simply put the SIM card into your unlocked smartphone, tablet or hotspot and start using your device for data. As the SIM is plug and play, there is no configuration or activation procedure to follow; they activate as soon as they pick up a network. There are no contracts to sign, no monthly bills to pay, no hidden fees and no difficult plans to understand. Once you start using the data SIM card, your service is activated and will remain activated for 30 days or 365 days, depending on which version you choose, or until you use up the data. Using your own, dedicated data SIM card is much faster, convenient and secure than finding a Wi Fi hotspot. Many hackers target tourists when traveling so that they can access vital information such as online bank passwords which is not what you want to happen when overseas.

*All Verizon LTE phones are unlocked. Most AT&T, T-Mobile/Sprint phones are carrier locked but eligible for unlocking if paid off. You may also get a temporary unlock on your T-Mobile phone for travel purposes. Phones purchased directly from Apple are unlocked. Please check your carrier’s policy for other carriers.
