Here is how to check to see if your phone or iPad is unlocked and eSIM compatible. Go to:

– Information
– Carrier lock : you will see in this field “NO SIM restrictions” or “SIM restricted” which means it is unlocked.

In case your device is locked, contact your carrier and see if you qualify to have the device “unlocked” (you just need to provide its IMEI that you can find under the Settings or dial *#06# to display it on your screen).

Select one of our cell phone rentals for your next trip to Spain. All of our phone rentals offer data, unlimited calls and text anywhere in Spain and work seamlessly throughout Europe. All on the Vodafone, the largest carrier in Spain.

Please note that in order to call or text the USA or Canada, you must use an app. We recommend Talkatone as it is easy to use, free and you can call to landlines. WhatsApp of course is a great app but the limitation is that both users need to have it on their phone. Also, please note that in order to download most apps, you must rent an iPhone 6 or above. You can download apps using WiFi before your trip.

While you can make calls in Spain and text in Spain without an app, many users tend to use their phones for activities involving data more than for calling. You can book hotels, check into your flight, use maps, check emails and more with a cell phone. Again, the iPhone 5 rental is good primarily for calling and browsing but not for downloading apps as most apps require a more recent operating system.

Your rental is ready to go as soon as you arrive in Spain and includes the phone with the SIM card, a European cell phone number, a charger and plug adapter, instructions and a return label. You will receive your rental 2-3 days prior to your departure time permitting. The rental works anywhere and everywhere in Europe and is not limited just to Spain.

When do I order?

You can order as far in advance as you like – even months prior to your departure. We will ship your rental at the appropriate date in order for you to receive it prior to your departure. Rentals are shipped ground or express service and will arrive 2 or more business days prior to your set departure date.

How do I call the US, Canada or outside the EU

The phone rental allows you to call anywhere within the EU from within the EU. However, if you want to call to the US, Canada or anywhere outside the EU, you will need to use an app that allows you to dial. Skype, WhatsApp, Facetime are a few but we recommend Talkatone as it is free to use and works well.

What will this cost me?

Can I download apps?

If you log on with your Apple ID, all of your apps will automatically load. Please make sure that the apps you want to download are compatible with the version of the phone you rent. Please make sure to delete your account before returning the phone – otherwise we will have all your contact information, photos, emails and other sensitive information.

What is the latest I can order a rental phone?

You can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in before to 1:30pm Pacific Time. Exceptions can be made on a limited basis, even if you are leaving early in the morning – we can

Does the cell phone come charged?

Yes it does, but it’s always best to test the battery and charge phone before your departure.

Can I charge this phone on my trip?

Yes, you will receive an international charger and relevant plug adapters, so you can charge the phone in the U.S. or at your destination.

How do I return the phone?

Round trip shipping is included in your shipping fee. You will be provided with a return package (Canadian rental customers click here)

What happens if I cancel?

If your rental has not shipped, you will only be charged a 5% reserve fee. If your rental has been sent out, you are responsible for the one week rental fee plus the shipping fee.

Are there any surcharges or hidden fees?

Unless you are roaming outside of the country or countries for which your service is offered, the rates are fixed according to our posted rate chart and coverage areas. All rental customers are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?

Yes, rental insurance is available for $24 as an add-on once you add your item to the cart.

Spain SIM Card

If you are traveling to Spain choose between one of our 4 SIM cards. All plans give you fast 4G/5G LTE data speeds. The Tourist and Professional plans offer unlimited calling and text messages within Europe and all plans roam anywhere in Europe. In addition, the Professional plan offers 12GB of data whereas the Tourist plan only offers 5GB. Both plans offer 30 days of service and are renewable for the same fee as the price of the orginal SIM card. The Extended Professional Plan and the Executive plans are data only and offer 12 and 24GB of data respectively.

Calls and texts to the USA and Canada and elsewhere are available on all plans using an app such as WhatsApp, Google Voice or Talkatone. We recommend Talkatone as the app is free as are unlimited calls and texts to the USA and Canada.

Add an unlocked cell phone to your SIM card (available during checkout). This is the perfect option for travelers who don’t have an unlocked phone or simply need a spare cell phone. All phones come unlocked and with travel plugs and chargers for Spain.
