If you are unfamiliar with what a Wi Fi hotspot is, a hotspot is a compact, portable device that gives you on-demand fast 4G/5G LTE data for your cell phone, laptop, iPad or any other Wi Fi enabled device. In addition, you can connect several devices, up to 10, simultaneously. This is the perfect solution for having affordable, reliable and secure data anywhere in Austria or any other country in Europe.

Not only do you have access to apps such as Google Maps, WhatsApp, Uber and can access your emails or browse the web but, with apps such as Talkatone, you can make unlimited calls and texts to the USA or Canada absolutely are.

To rent, simply select your actual departure and return dates and we will send you the hotspot complete with all necessary power cords, chargers and adapters plus a prepaid return package (USA customers only, other customers must pay to ship back to our office in the US). You will receive the hotspot prior to your departure, typically 2-3 business days before your trip time permitting.

Select a rental phone, either Android or iPhone, enter the exact departure and return dates and the rental fee will be calculated. You will receive the rental phone prior to your departure (2-3 days, time permitting) and it will be ready to use as soon as you arrive in Austria or anywhere else in Europe. The rental comes complete with all plug adapters, chargers, instructions and a prepaid return label (for customers based in the US).

Please note that in order to call or text the USA or Canada, you must use an app. We recommend Talkatone as it is easy to use, free and you can call to landlines. WhatsApp of course is a great app but the limitation is that both users need to have it on their phone. Also, please note that in order to download most apps, you must rent an iPhone 6 or above.

When do I order?

You can order as far in advance as you like – even months prior to your departure. We will ship your rental at the appropriate date in order for you to receive it prior to your departure. Rentals are shipped ground or express service and will arrive 2 or more business days prior to your set departure date.

How do I call the US, Canada or outside the EU

The SIM card does allow you to call anywhere within the EU from within the EU. However, if you want to call to the US, Canada or anywhere outside the EU, you will need to use an app that allows you to dial. Skype, WhatsApp, Facetime are a few but we recommend Talkatone as it is free to use and works well.

What will this cost me?

The applicable rental period fee for the duration of your rental period.

Taxes are applicable only if you are in California.

Can I download apps?

If you log on with your Apple ID, all of your apps will automatically load. Please make sure that the apps you want to download are compatible with the version of the phone you rent. Please make sure to delete your account before returning the phone – otherwise we will have all your contact information, photos, emails and other sensitive information.

What is the latest I can order a rental phone?

You can order up to one business day prior to your departure as long as you call in before to 1:30pm Pacific Time. Exceptions can be made on a limited basis, even if you are leaving early in the morning – we can

Does the cell phone come charged?

Yes it does, but it’s always best to test the battery and charge phone before your departure.

Can I charge this phone on my trip?

Yes, you will receive an international charger and relevant plug adapters, so you can charge the phone in the U.S. or at your destination.

How do I return the phone?

Round trip shipping is included in your shipping fee for US customers. You will be provided with a return package if you are based in the USA.

What happens if I cancel?

If your rental has not shipped, you will only be charged a 5% reserve fee. If your rental has been sent out, you are responsible for the two week rental fee plus the shipping fee.

Are there any surcharges or hidden fees?

Unless you are roaming outside of the country or countries for which your service is offered, the rates are fixed according to our posted rate chart and coverage areas. All rental customers are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

What will the rates be for people calling me from the US?

That depends on the international long distance rates charged by their Long Distance Company or international calling card. We recommend using a app.

Does Cellular Abroad offer insurance against loss or damage?

Yes, rental insurance is available for $24 as an add-on once you add your item to the cart and covers loss or breakage.

Austria SIM Card

If you are traveling to Austria, choose between one of our 4 SIM cards. All plans give you fast 4G/5G LTE data speeds. The Tourist and Professional plans offer unlimited calling and text messages within Europe. In addition, the Professional plan offers 12GB of data whereas the Tourist plan only offers 5GB. Both plans offer 30 days of service and are renewable for the same fee as the price of the orginal SIM card. The Extended Professional Plan and the Executive plans are data only and offer 12 and 24GB of data respectively.

Calls and texts to the USA and Canada and elsewhere are available on all plans using an app such as WhatsApp, Google Voice or Talkatone. We recommend Talkatone as the app is free as are unlimited calls and texts to the USA and Canada.
